At SMPS, we inspire children to develop a curiosity about the past in Britain, the wider world and our local area. Through studying history, pupils learn how the past has shaped the present and gain an understanding of different societies, cultures and beliefs.

Our curriculum develops both historical knowledge and the skills of a historian. Children are encouraged to ask questions, analyse evidence, think critically and consider different perspectives.

Learning about local history helps children develop a connection to their community and understand how it has changed over time.

High-quality fiction and non-fiction texts enrich learning, helping children to understand historical events, experiences and viewpoints. Through these experiences, we aim to foster curiosity, critical thinking and a lifelong love of history.

Our aim is for every child to leave South Milford Primary School with a strong understanding of the past, a curiosity about the world around them and the skills to think critically about history and its impact on the present and the future.
